Census: More Americans have college degrees than ever before BY REID WILSON - 04/03/17  From the census states that more Americans have college degrees than ever before. The Census Bureau said 33.4 percent of Americans 25 or older said they had completed a bachelor’s degree or higher. That’s a sharp rise from the 28 percent with a college degree a decade ago. The Census data show the number of high school graduates is also increasing, across racial and gender lines. More than 89 percent of Americans reported achieving a high school education in 2016, up from 79 percent a quarter-century ago. Among blacks, the percentage of high school graduates is up to 87.1 percent, a 10-point increase in the last 18 years.

The benefits of a University education By Kim Catcheside           March 5th, 2012 After reading all the latest reports, and Stefan Collini's new book, Kim Catcheside is still convinced no-one can better Thorstein Veblen's description of what a university is for.  It provides the source of strength for towns, universities are the source of strength in the knowledge-based economy of the twenty-first century. This looks at how universities and academics can promote enterprise and entrepreneurship as part of their teaching and how this might be properly assessed. I'm particularly struck by the section describing the "behaviors, attributes and skills" that should be demonstrated by an enterprising and entrepreneurial student. Does College Need a Rethink?

Does college need a rethink?   11/01/2017   Chester E. Finn Jr,  is a Distinguished Senior Fellow and President Emeritus at the Fordham Institute   argues that ," College itself is what needs a rethink, both in its own right and as a universal destination for young Americans". He adds that,'"No, I’m not holding my breath, for many influential organizations, thinkers, and philanthropies remain wedded to 'college for all' is too easy to get called nasty names if you cast doubt on that goal. ". He says that the goal of college for all is not a feasible goal.
